You’re In The Areana

Hebrews 12:1-2

I: The Arean’s of Paul’s Day:
1.Christians attended but often as the pray of wild animals.
2. Exciting races, death, and life was often the main attraction.
3. Roads leading to the arena were often decorated by bronze bust and plaques of champions.
4. The ambition of every contestant was to have his name on a plaque.
5. The Christian’s names were paced in the “lambs book of life.”

Their sin was running a worthy race with the gal in aim to please Jesus.

II: The Two Races compared:
1. Both have spectators.
a. “A cloud of witnesses.” Hebrews 11.
b. Arena of Rome, pleasure mad.
2. Beth has strong motives.
a. The Christian has earthly and heavenly spectators.
b. Strength in assurances of victory on the premise of his coach!
3. Discipline and training for both.
a. This Roman contestant backed by his whole village.
b. Paid tremendous sacrifice. Was not running for self but his whole town, family, and friends.
c. The discipline and training was determined by the value placed on the ultimate outcome.
d. They leaned to stay on the track and did not look back.
e. They developed a smooth natural stride with budgeted strength.
f. No extra weight!
4. Self denial was essential.

III: Both Races had a starting point.
1. The Christian begins by accepting Christ as Lord and Saviour.
2. He never has a trial run.
3. From the time he signs up for the race, he is in the arena.
4. Both races have a Judge.

IV: The Christian Motive and Appeal:
1. The past, present, and future watches.
2. He is on display.
3. Lay aside the weight and sin that takes hold so easily! Run with patience.
4. At the finish line stands Jesus!

You are being watched by Saint’s Past, everyone you come in contact with and by Jesus.
