Cheap Religion

Samuel 2 24:18-25

Bargain hunters find no bargains at Gods County. Here be found everything at his command, without coat or much effort, but he refused. Judas – Ananias and Saphari – The rich ruler!

I: David was a man after God’s own heart.
1. David was quick to recognize his own sins.
2. He refused to offer that which cost him nothing.
3. He was not willing to enjoy the blessing of God while others paid the price.
4. David was not seeking the blessing without the responsibilities.
5. He was not wiling to set back and leave the financial and spiritual burdens to others.
6. He realized the central truth, “You get what you pay for.”

II: Saul’s religion was cheap enough to show disrespect and disobedience.
1. He intruded into the Prophet’s place. If Saul lived today, I’m sure he would have felt no guilt smoking or chewing in God’s house.
2. Obedience to him was too costly (he saved the King and the best of the cattle).
3. His religion was cheap enough to allow hatred, envy, and strife.
4. He paid the price of cheap religion by losing his Kingdom and by taking his own life.

III: Salomon’s religion was cheap, as any other Gods.
1. He started out well.
2. He used his religion as a political tool.
3. To him it made no difference where they worshiped.
4. When he was old he fell victim to his cheap religion.

IV: Jeroboam wanted a cheap, easy religion. King I 12:25-31.
1. He knew the people wanted an easy religion.
2. They were willing to change to the worship of calves that took less of their time and money.
3. Jeroboam used the lowest of men to lead the people in worship.
4. But when his boy got sick he wanted a true man of God to help him. “When thy fest enter into the city the child shall die.”

V: You will reap what you sow.
1. The way of the cross-head house.
2. The Cross, His mine.
3. “My daddy was a Baptist Preacher and many times he and mother let us eat first and there was nothing left. He preached and 118 souls were converted. 209 members, 16 different nationalities and one priest converted.” Missing Boyd Roberts.
